The thread consumption varies depending on the type of stitch, the number of needles, and the stitch length.
Below is a description of the main stitching types used in jeans.

| 406 | Coverseam | 18.0 | 2 | 30% / 70% | Derived from stitch 401, it uses two needle threads and one looper thread to form a cover seam. |
| 504 | 3-Thread Overedge / Overlock | 14.0 | 1 | 20% / 80% | Formed with three threads: one needle thread and two from loopers. Provides excellent extensibility and resists fraying. Used to prevent edge fraying and to join two or more fabric layers. |
| 516 | 5-Thread Safety Overlock | 20.0 | 2 | 20% / 80% | A combined stitch that joins a 401 chainstitch with a 3-thread 504 overedge stitch. The 401 handles the load while the 504 covers the edge and provides added security. |
