A journey that began in Italy and grew around the world, always with our eyes firmly set on the future.
Today, we want to celebrate this anniversary by looking back at some of the milestones that have brought us this far. And, above all, by looking ahead to what lies in store.
THE ROOTS | A story that began long before 1976
MIC’s story is rooted in the textile tradition of the Cumerlato family, which began in 1911 with Ovattificio Cumerlato in the Vicenza area.
Generation after generation, experience, expertise and a passion for textiles evolved alongside the changing market.
It was from this heritage that, in 1976, Piergiorgio and Giovanni Cumerlato founded Manifattura Italiana Cucirini, specialising in the production of cotton and polyester sewing threads.
And so MIC was born. A new chapter began in a story already deeply connected to thread.
EVOLUTION | Growing means anticipating needs
In the 1980s, MIC established its first in-house dyehouse, enabling the company to respond more quickly to manufacturers’ needs while developing increasingly in-depth expertise in colour.
In the 1990s, MIC looked beyond Italy’s borders, building an international network alongside leading European fashion brands.
Growth continued with new facilities, technologies and expertise, culminating in the establishment of Cometex in Egypt in 2011 — a new production site in a region with a long-standing tradition of high-quality cotton production.
From an Italian company to an international player, without losing sight of its roots.
TODAY | MIC thread around the world
Fifty years after its foundation, MIC is an international player in the production and supply of sewing, embroidery and knitting yarns, with a global presence serving a wide range of industries, from fashion to technical textiles.
Our goal is not simply to offer high-performance products, but to provide our customers with experience, technical expertise, colour research, and a fast, reliable service.
TOWARDS THE FUTURE | Innovation, sustainability, new connections
For MIC, celebrating 50 years means looking to the future through research, new materials, sustainability and a close focus on the evolution of fashion.
Projects such as GELSETA, supporting the Veronese silk supply chain, demonstrate a concrete commitment to innovation, traceability and sustainability.
Tradition and innovation come together once again, just as they have throughout our history.
1976–2026 | 50 YEARS, A THREAD THAT CONTINUES
Over these 50 years, technologies, markets, materials, colours and trends have changed.
What has remained unchanged is the way we approach our work: listening, researching, innovating and building relationships that stand the test of time.
That is why this anniversary also belongs to everyone who has shared part of the journey with us: colleagues, customers and professionals who have helped shape the MIC of today.
