Q&A with Mukesh

•  How did your journey in the textile industry begin, and what inspired you to pursue this path?
It all started in the 1970s on the King’s Road in Chelsea. I had a Saturday job in a jeans shop called Silver Dollar, where I quickly became the number one salesman. That experience truly inspired me to pursue a career in clothing, specialising in denim.

•  What sets an excellent denim product apart from a standard one?
Materials, craftsmanship, and finishing—not just one factor.
Quality of Denim Fabric (Raw Material): Top-tier denim starts with premium fabric from renowned mills such as Kaihara Denim, Cone Denim, or Candiani Denim.

•  What aspects of MIC impressed you the most, and what led you to start this collaboration?
MIC offers excellent products for the clothing industry, particularly in the denim and knitting sectors. Their two facilities, located in Italy and Egypt, enable them to effectively serve global markets that manufacture denim and knitwear

•  Are there any key projects you’ve been involved in that have had a lasting impact on you?
Successfully launched the brands Etienne Ozeki and Blue Guru in 2000. Both brands achieved widespread distribution across all European Union countries and were positioned in leading premium denim retailers, establishing a strong presence in the high-end denim market.

Is there any particular advice you would give to someone looking to enter the textile industry today?

“The best way to enter the industry is to start by working in retail stores.
It is the most valuable learning experience one can have.”
