UTOPIA

#ThesisProject #IstitutoSecoli

We strongly believe in the talent of young people and in the value of education as a strategic driver of innovation in the fashion industry.

For this reason, MIC actively supports universities by establishing meaningful collaborations with talented and creative students, guiding them in the development of their thesis projects. We provide our technical expertise and innovative materials with the aim of turning every idea into a concrete and achievable vision.

Garments must be able to adapt to different contexts, accompanying the wearer throughout every moment of the day. Moving beyond the concept of seasonality means investing in solutions designed to last, transform, and renew over time.

The possibility to personalize and reinterpret each garment thus becomes an added value, capable of combining style and practicality. In this scenario, fashion evolves towards a more dynamic, conscious, and versatile dimension.

THE PROJECT

The project conceived by M.S. is developed in three distinct parts that interact with one another, generating versatile combinations of garments and materials.

At its core lies a clear principle: adapting to the contemporary world, overcoming today’s consumerist mindset through a minimal and ready-to-wear proposal.

The project promotes fundamental values—often overlooked yet essential—such as respect and care for both people and the environment.
Essential lines and clean design make the collection inclusive, created to enhance every body type.

YARNS USED

To complete the creative journey, the student selected MIC yarns, in line with the ethical approach guiding the entire project.

Among them, LEAF — a twisted continuous-filament accelerated decomposition nylon — was chosen for its sheen and fluidity; and MEGAFLEX — a wood-based Lyocell fiber, 100% TENCEL™ — flexible and durable, ideal for sustainable production and appreciated for its softness when combined with natural and raw fabrics.

LEAF

100% biodegradable nylon

Twisted continuous filament made of modified polyamide with accelerated biodegradability properties in anaerobic environments. It decomposes in approximately 5 years, instead of the 50–100 years required for traditional nylon.

MEGAFLEX

100% TENCEL™ by Lenzing AG

A natural yarn derived from wood pulp from FSC-certified or controlled forests. Flexible and durable, it is suitable for natural fiber productions and ready-to-dye (RTD).

"My goal? To create useful and innovative beauty, sharing it with those around me.
I aspire to combine technique, ethics, and social awareness, with a focus on continuous improvement.
My values drive me to pursue quality, sustainability, and creative regeneration."

Matilde Segato (2003)

Matilde Segato is a young fashion designer, recently graduated in Fashion Design and Women's Fashion Product Technologies from the Istituto Carlo Secoli.

She is the designer of Utopia, her bachelor’s thesis project: a work that powerfully expresses her vision, highlighting creativity, determination, and design identity.

Her journey takes shape through in-depth technical research, leading her to explore and master the art of pattern making: a language of lines, proportions, and constructions capable of embracing, enhancing, and telling the story of the body.
