Expertise, education, and passion — where industry and school meet to create a more conscious fashion future.

Where know-how meets the next generation

On October 23rd, 2025, MIC Spa was invited to the Jean School in Amsterdam, the world’s first educational institution entirely dedicated to denim training.
Part of the House of Denim Foundation and the Denim City ecosystem, the Jean School — founded by Mariette Hoitink and Jos van den Hoogen — is an international benchmark for nurturing the next generation of denim professionals.

Representing MIC was Nicola Carletti, Marketing & Product Manager, who led a lecture focused on the world of yarns for denim and their essential role in the evolution of materials and textile processes.

When yarn becomes knowledge

Often overlooked, the yarn is the true foundation of textiles — it’s where everything begins.
Understanding yarn means understanding the structure, performance, and environmental impact of fabrics.

During the session, Nicola Carletti guided students through the universe of fibers and manufacturing technologies, exploring key topics for today’s fashion industry:

  • Raw materials: from natural fibers (cotton, linen, wool) to synthetic and man-made ones (polyester, viscose, modal), including more responsible alternatives emerging in the market.
  • Sustainability: how fiber choices, dyeing techniques, and spinning methods shape the final product’s environmental footprint.
  • Yarn structures: twisted, textured, stretch — and how these influence durability, comfort, and visual appeal.
  • Certifications: the role of global standards such as OEKO-TEX®, GRS, and GOTS, ensuring traceability, safety, and transparency throughout the supply chain.
  • Denim-specific yarns: a deep dive into MIC’s specialized solutions developed to meet denim’s unique requirements — from elasticity and resistance to touch and handfeel.

A collaboration that weaves expertise and vision

The session — masterfully coordinated by Tessa van Doorn — evolved into an engaging exchange between educators, students, and industry experts.
The MIC yarns, already used within the school for their quality, versatility, and performance, served as a starting point to reflect on how technical knowledge can drive both innovation and sustainability.

The Jean School, part of the House of Denim Foundation, is internationally recognized as a center of excellence for denim education, offering a three-year government-accredited program supported by major players in the global denim industry.

Sharing to evolve

For MIC Spa, this collaboration represents much more than a learning experience — it’s a tangible way to reaffirm our identity as yarn experts and our commitment to a more responsible and transparent fashion industry.

“The only way to build a sustainable future in textiles,” says the MIC team, “is to share know-how. There’s nothing to hide — only by exchanging knowledge can we find the best solutions for everyone.”

A thread that connects

MIC continues to believe in the synergy between education and industry, convinced that true innovation comes from collaboration and curiosity.
From Amsterdam to the world, our yarn keeps weaving passion, expertise, and vision — because the fashion of the future is built together, one fiber at a time.
