MIC Spa at the Accademia del Lusso in Rome

MIC Spa continues to promote a close collaboration between the academic environment and the world of work in the fashion sector. On March 15, 2024, the company was a guest at the Accademia del Lusso in Rome, where it held a lecture for students in the 1st and 2nd year of Fashion Design.

Students prepare by studying the fundamentals of fashion, history, and costume. Like MIC, in this special lecture, we provided students with a practical perspective, introducing them to the world of yarns. This is a crucial step for those aspiring to specialize in garment construction or knitwear, two distinct sectors that require specific skills.

The focus of the lecture was on the concepts of yarn count, essential in the textile industry. Yarn count, or the linear density of a yarn, is crucial for understanding the variety of yarns available on the market. However, the technical language used in the industry can be daunting for those unfamiliar with it: terms like Tex, dTex, Nm, Ne, Meters per kg, and machine fineness can be confusing.

We therefore provided students with a clear and accessible overview of these concepts, preparing them as much as possible for a successful career in the fashion world. Our mission is to introduce them to the beauty and complexity of textile techniques - with a focus on yarns - equipping them with the necessary skills to confidently tackle the challenges of this fascinating sector.

During the lecture, furthermore, we delved into the importance of yarn quality and its impact on the production of high-quality clothing. Through practical examples and case studies, we illustrated to students how choosing the right yarns can significantly influence the final outcome of a fashion piece.
