BIODEGRADABLE SOFTNESS

Knitted overcoat - Emotional Technologies capsule

PITTI 90 HOSTS THE SECOND COLLABORATION BETWEEN MIC AND SHIMA

MIC spa, a Verona-based company producer of sewing, embroidery and knitting yarns for the world of fashion, footwear and interiors, has collaborated with Shima Seiki Italia (SSI), a branch of the Japanese company world leader in the sale of straight knitting machines, in the creation of the Emotional Technologies capsule collection designed by Vittorio Branchizio (VB), Art Director of SSI.

The collection was presented at the PITTI Immagine Filati 90th edition at the Stazione Leopolda in Florence, the reference exhibition for the world of knitting yarns at an international level.

The stylistic knowledge of VB combined with the knowledge of the discipline of knitting, and the support of valuable partners has allowed to create 12 outfits in knitwear, combining raw materials of different origin, creating contrasts of color, shine as well as offering new tactile sensations from which to take inspiration: the union of traditional fibers in the world of knitting (wools and cottons) to the most performing technical yarns has shown new horizons.

A DELICATE KNITTED OVERCOAT

Among the 12 garments of the capsule, there is a knitted overcoat, whose design is inspired by a spatial horizon in which the sky has the upper hand, which was possible to recreate thanks to the specific performance of the machine MACH2XS 153 15G by Shima, with which the entire garment was made.

Inside the article, there are several polyamide fibers, viscose and the LEAF yarn of MIC, gray in color. The choice among MIC yarns, has fallen on this article because this nylon yarn with accelerated biodegradability, in the versions spun and spun, has an extremely soft hand and a shiny-matt effect that ensure a delicate brightness, in contrast to the opacity of wool or brightness of polyester, and a soft contact with the skin.

In knitwear, LEAF and LEAF TEX yarns are indicated in the production of edgings, such as collars and cuffs, or as in this case, in multi-strand processing, or for overlocking in the packaging and finishing phase.

ACCELERATED BIODEGRADABILITY

LEAF is a sewing thread developed from a polymer with accelerated decomposition properties in an anaerobic environment: it degrades in about 5 years, against 50/100 years of traditional polyamide. The polymer, developed by Rhodia Solvay (R), starts the degradation process once the product is discarded and placed in contact with anaerobic microorganisms. Its biodegradability has been tested in accordance with the international standard ASTM D5511.
